Want to know how to enjoy your renovation or new build?

For many homeowners, this doesn’t seem possible. Enjoy it? Are you crazy?

It is possible to enjoy your renovation or new build project. It just needs you to do something else first.

All this season, I’m sharing a fantastic resource I’ve created to help you, and you can access it now for free.

If you’re struggling with understanding the overall steps for your project, what you should be focussing on and when, or how to best invest your efforts, energy and money to get a great outcome in your future home, this will be super helpful.

It’s my online workshop called “Your Project Plan”.

Head to https://undercoverarchitect.com/projectplan to access and watch it online now. I’ve also added some great bonus resources I’ve made available for you, including the transcripts of all the podcasts in this season packaged up in a fantastic E-Guide.

This is episode 187 of the Get it Right podcast.

In this episode, I’ll be talking about getting serious about your project, and how this can be THE pathway to having real fun whilst you design, build and renovate your family home.

It is possible to enjoy your renovation or new build.

Our homes are serious stuff. Our investment of time is serious stuff. Taking out a 30 year mortgage, or spending money we’ve spent years saving, or inherited from someone else who spent years saving … that’s serious stuff.

And crafting the building we will then be keeping ourselves, and those we most love, safe in, secure in, as well as spending most of our time in … that’s serious stuff too.

And the impact that home has on us and the person we are in the world, and the impact it has on the planet as well … that’s also serious stuff.

And because we’ve taken it seriously, and done the work to realise the full potential of our dreams, our budget, our project and our home, then we get to have EVEN MORE FUN in the home we’ve created for ourselves and our family.

Because it works, feels great, and we feel great in it.

It’s not riddled with frustrations, regrets or maintenance headaches. Nor will go out of style in a few years time.

Instead, our home is setting us up for fun – long term.

If you want someone who will take you seriously, take your home seriously, take your project experience seriously, take your time and your money seriously, then you’re in the right place.

AND, we can still have fun.

Thinking about this reminded me of something I used to do with my kids.

I remember when my kids were really little, I’d have all three of them in the car, and we’d be on our way out the door to run a bunch of errands. The necessary normal stuff that involves ensuring you have food for the week and other really interesting stuff.

And the kids would start up with their requests.

“Mum, when can we go to the park?”

Or “Mum, can we go to that shop and get that food we like?”

Or “Mum, I want to do …” x, y, z …

I expect you’ll know exactly the type of scenario I’m describing. Three small children who really don’t want to run errands with Mum, and believe me, Mum’s not that excited about running errands either, but it has to happen if we all want to eat this week.

I would say to them … “Hey. This is what’s happening right now.

And we do what we need to, to do what we want to.”

It got to be a bit of a mantra. “We do what we need to, to do what we want to.”

Picture 3 small humans parroting it in the back seat as we drive out the driveway … “We do what we need to, to do what we want to.”

The aim was always to get through the errands fast enough, with as little mayhem and stress as is possible with 3 small humans in tow, and drop into the park on the way home.

And the secret was also making the errands enjoyable as well. So the stuff we need to do was actually fun as well … just a different kind of fun. The ‘getting stuff done’ fun.

I actually think that renovating and building is like that. We do what we need to, so we can do what we want to.

We do what we need to in terms of navigating an industry we don’t have experience in or understand that well, whilst investing a really significant amount of our personal finances, and take the time, effort and energy to travel the journey our project requires us to.

So we can have what we want to. A home we love living in, that works for us, that feels great, and we feel great in.

And the stuff we need to do – it can also be enjoyable.

As I’ve said before, that doesn’t mean it won’t be without its challenges. The key is here, that when you’re feeling more informed, more supported, more confident, more guided in your project.

And you know the steps involved in doing what you need, then you CAN enjoy it more. Because it’s then a case of you tackling a challenging adventure … as opposed to holding on the seat of your pants through a treacherous, overwhelming and stressful ride.

So this is something to know about me.

I take this really seriously.

I take you really seriously.

I take your dreams for your home really seriously.
