Learn how to choose greener building materials, and make sustainable selections for your home’s interior.
Meet Druce Davey from Greener.
Hello! This is Episode 206.
In this episode, I’m speaking with Druce Davey from Greener.
Druce and his business featured on the Undercover Architect blog right back in the early days, and so I was really chuffed when Druce got in touch with me recently and updated me on the work he’s been doing, and how he’s expanded beyond his sustainable kitchen and bathroom business, to assisting homeowners more generally in their projects.
Druce has a wealth of knowledge to share on choosing greener building materials, and how to make more sustainable selections in your new build or renovation project. I think you’re going to find this conversation super helpful if you’re seeking to create a sustainable home.
Making sustainable selections for your future home is a fantastic goal to have when building or renovating.
However, it can feel like a bit of a minefield, and I have many homeowners tell me they can meet resistance from the builders and designers they’re working with, who are nervous about using untested materials, or simply tell them it will be more expensive to create a sustainable home.
As you’ve most likely heard me say before, how you design your home will go a LONG way to improving its sustainability. I’ve spoken a lot about this on the podcast – about designing for orientation, and maximising the natural assets, so you lower the heating and cooling requirements for your home.
And, with every decision you make, every selection you make, if you can choose the more sustainable option, you’ll also make a huge difference through those incremental choices.
It may not be the MOST sustainable option you choose – because your budget, or your project requirements, may prevent that. But if it can always be the MORE sustainable option, then every choice makes a difference.
Whatever your goals for your future home, and whatever the reasons for them, making sustainable selections, and choosing greener building materials just makes a lot of sense.
When we spend so much time in our homes, and they consume so much in materials and energy, the choices we make really matter. We literally can change things one house at a time.
And that’s why I really loved reconnecting with Dru, and being able to bring him onto the podcast. Let me tell you about him.

About two-thirds of the way through the interview, we had a guest jump onto Dru’s lap – his cat, “Vintage”. So, listen out for that!
