How to find out if your Brisbane home is pre 1946

Do you know why “pre-1946” is so important when renovating or building in the Brisbane City Council area?

Well – did you know that the first recorded aerial photograph of Brisbane was taken in 1946?

It’s why the date is so significant for Town Planning legislation in the Brisbane City Council region.

Not sure if your property was built before 1946?

(I’ve had a homeowner once tell me that the aerial photograph showed a pile of timber sitting on their land, ready for construction – but no home yet!)

If your home is in a “Traditional Character” area, the pre-1946 date and associated town planning rules are VERY significant in your renovation and building plans. If you’re not in one of these areas, these rules may or may not apply – so it’s worth confirming with Brisbane City Council directly.
